MANUFACTURING PROCESS
Full spectrum liquid extracts
At the Herbal Extract Company, we’re always doing our best to learn from Mother Nature’s wisdom.
We specialise in manufacturing full-spectrum, whole plant liquid extracts as nature intended, because we’ve always believed that the effect of the whole plant is greater than its parts.
Our manufacturing goals are to enhance nature, not denature it and to create healthy connections between people and plants.
MANUFACTURING PROCESS
Synergy is key
Drawing on more than a century of experience in herbal medicine, we have mastered our unique Continuous Flow Cold Percolation manufacturing process. This is a slow and gentle method to extract the full spectrum of constituents within the original plant material. Our traditional way of manufacturing maintains the natural phytochemical profile for the constituents to work synergistically together and achieve superior results.
QUALITY ASSURANCE
Consistent, high quality
To ensure our products are made to a consistent, high quality, we have designed a comprehensive Quality Assurance (QA) system, incorporating Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Quality Control (QC). We also have an in-house analytical microbiology laboratory. To learn more about our unique process, read more or reach out to us for more information.
GOOD MANUFACTURING PRACTICE
TGA licensed manufacturing facility
Ensuring the quality, safety and efficacy of our products is at the core of everything we do at the Herbal Extract Company.
As an operator of a TGA licensed manufacturing facility, we uphold the principles of GMP as outlined in the Pharmaceutical Inspection Convention and Pharmaceutical Inspection Co-operation Scheme (jointly known as PIC/S) guide to GMP for Medicinal Products, the international manufacturing standard adopted by the TGA.
GOOD MANUFACTURING PRACTICE
Beyond compliance of the regulations
We go beyond complying with these regulations, we aim to surpass them. Our unique process and high standards for quality control and production ensures our liquid herbal extracts are fit for their intended use. As a team, every decision we make is backed by our love for plants and our commitment to ensuring future generations can benefit from the pure power of herbs.
From using the whole plant, to responsible production from start to finish - we are holistic in everything we do.
RESEARCH
We are holistic in everything we do
We’re dedicated to sharing knowledge for the benefit and support of others, which is why research is an important part of our day-to-day process. We continually explore herbal medicines, both in the laboratory, and from literature.
Some examples of our in-house laboratory research include:
- Botanical adulterant reviews
- Optimisation of our traditional manufacturing process e.g., product water to alcohol ratios
- Product shelf-life
- Traditional therapeutic indications and dosage
RESEARCH
Up-to-date information and current references
Our literature research aims to support herbal medicine students and practitioners in clinic. We provide, free of charge, extensively researched herbal monographs, naturopath condition and treatment guides and herbal highlights, with up-to-date information and current references. A meticulous literature review of research associated with a particular herb or condition is performed and the most relevant studies are then interpreted and summarised.
Our monographs (plant biographies), naturopath guides and educational information have a focus on the traditional use of a herb, supported by the latest scientific research, with an emphasis on whole plant studies rather than active constituents.
RESEARCH
Preclinical studies don’t guarantee effectiveness
Preclinical studies, which include in vitro (test tube or petri dish) and in vivo (living cells or animal) models, facilitate experimentation however we use caution in extrapolating these results to humans as many factors are acting upon this process. Preclinical studies don’t guarantee effectiveness in humans and the information is interpreted as only of tentative relevance to a clinical situation.
We aim to provide current evidence from human clinical trials where possible and clarify which information comes from pharmacological models when there are no human clinical trials. By doing this we assist our healthcare practitioners to confidently prescribe liquid herbs for generations to come.
FULL SPECTRUM EXTRACTS
Ratio depends on optimum extraction
Traditional dose information has typically been based on high quality 1:1 extracts (twice the amount of raw material than a 1:2). While most of our extracts are 1:1, we sometimes manufacture other ratios depending on the optimum extraction for the individual herb (e.g. turmeric 1:2), for low dose extracts (e.g. capsicum 1:3) and expensive herbs where the cost of a 1:1 would be prohibitive (e.g. false unicorn 1:2).
